Those four words tell the story of how financial planner and investment adviser Cathy Curtis lives her life and runs her business. She is fueled by passion for her work. Her business is rooted in personal success. Transparency is her business model—no hidden costs or behind-the-scene incentives. All of which increases the joy she gets from being of service.

Early in her career, Cathy saw a need. During her years in the corporate world, she sought out positions where she could be successful, entrepreneurial and independent. But along the way, she saw discrimination and inequality.

I often saw women doing the grunt work and men making the money.

She learned that the glass ceiling and less pay for the same work were facts of life for many women. And the problem was that most financial advisors hadn’t noticed. So she set out to fulfill a need—to help savvy women make wise decisions about money.

It’s why she focuses on women and money in her own business. And, it’s one of the main reasons why she gets so much satisfaction from her work.

Today, Cathy works with savvy, independent and educated women who want a professional to help manage their financial life. Cathy loves her work because it allows her to pursue her passions and to make a larger contribution to the community. It’s inspiring, she says, to see people become happier as they get more financially secure.

Outside of her work, Cathy is passionate about healthy eating and sustainable agriculture. She is also loves being fit and enjoys swimming, cycling, pilates and yoga. She lives in Oakland with her husband Rob of 20 years. They met at a Commonwealth Club dinner event in San Francisco.
